IFAD/FGN/NDDC COMMUNITY BASED NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME – RIVERS STATE SUPPORT OFFICE

The IFAD-assisted Community Based Natural Resource Management  Programme – Niger Delta   (CBNRMP-ND) is an integrated agriculture and rural development Programme aimed at the improvement of the livelihood and living conditions of at least 400,000 rural poor household with emphasis on women and youths in Niger Delta Region.

The Programme is jointly funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nine (9) participating states of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers, Local government Areas and rural communities. The programme initially covered nine(9) LGAs and twenty-seven(27) communities prior to April 2011 when it was down sized to three(3) LGAs and nine(9) communities. The Programme is ending by September, 2015 and will finally close by March, 2016.

 

Policy Mandate:

The mandate of the Programme is to:

  1. Build the capacity of rural dwellers and their service providers to intervene in their own developmental initiatives
  2. Establish an effectively disbursable community development fund to be managed by them. The Programme applies the CDD approach in its Implementation strategy.
